Poznan Chamber Choir combines the best Polish choral traditions with passion and open attitude to art.
The ensemble is celebrated both nationally and internationally for excellent musical interpretations originating in its quest for the deepest sources of inspiration: from lyrics, through harmony, texture and form, to individual feelings of the conductor and choristers.

The choir was established in 2005 by Bartosz Michałowski, a long-time assistant to Prof. Stefan Stuligrosz, founder of the famous "Poznan Nightingales" Boys´ and Men´s Choir of the Poznan Philharmonic. Conducting experience acquired during numerous concerts with the Poznan Philharmonic and Sinfonia Varsovia orchestras played a crucial role in the establishment of the young artist's own ensemble, which soon found recognition among organizers of prominent competitions and festivals.

Winner of Grand Prix Awards at major choir competitions (2006, 2007 and 2010), the ensemble has also earned a number of special prizes in the best conductor, best vocal technique, and best performance of contemporary music categories.

Acclaimed at one of the most prestigious choral competitions in the world, the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, in July 2010, the ensemble won the First Prize and Audience Award at 13th International Choral Festival in Neuchâtel (Switzerland). The same month, the ensemble enjoyed spectacular success at one of Europe's most prestigious festivals, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival.

In May 2011, Poznan Chamber Choir was the first Polish ensemble to perform with the legendary Concerto Köln, with which it performed works by Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki.

In November 2011, following joint opening of Musica Sacromontana festival with the Czech Virtuosi (premiere of a Classicist composition by J. B. Lohr) and the performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the ensemble was invited to give a series of concerts with a… blues-rock legend Dżem, only to perform Mahler’s Third Symphony at the Poznan Philharmonic soon afterwords.

On April 13, 2012, the 270th anniversary of the premiere performance of G. F. Handel’s Messiah, Poznan Chamber Choir presented to music lovers the extremely rarely performed Dublin version of the masterpiece. The ensemble was accompanied by Irish Baroque Orchestra from Dublin, and the whole was conducted by Bartosz Michałowski.

In the same year the choir prepared a concert of premiers (during which pieces of contemporary choral music were performed) for the Poznan Music Spring festival, and also organized annual series of early music concerts “History Written With Music” for the first time. Since August 2012, the ensemble cooperates with the annual Transatlantyk Festival, during which it performed with various renowned artists, including Mark Isham and Sara Andon.

In year 2013 Poznan Chamber Choir was the only Polish ensemble to take part in the international celebrations of Morten Lauridsen’s 70th birthday anniversary. The choir performed Lux Aeterna for choir and orchestra and organized in Poznan the Polish premiere of Shining Night. A portrait of composer Morten Lauridsen – an award-winning documentary feature. In the same year the ensemble performed on numerous music festivals (Nostalgia, Transatlantyk and Musica Sacromontana), gave a concert with eminent violinists (Agata Szymczewska and Kuba Jakowicz) and became the official choir of the OPUS 966 Polish Composer Competition, for which it prepared the premiere performances of the pieces awarded in the first edition of the contest.

Poznan Chamber Choir has recorded ten CDs. In 2006, an album of compositions by Feliks Nowowiejski (incl. premiere performance of the reconstructed Ave Maria for eight voices) was published. 2008 saw the release of the world premiere recording of Radość Miłosierdzia (The Joy of Mercy) by Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz, while 2009 Jacek Sykulski’s composition Wolności dla nas idzie czas (Time of Freedom Is Drawing Near), as well as the choir’s first independent CD, Anima aetheris. Publication of an album containing traditional and jazz interpretations of Karol Szymanowski’s Kurpie Songs in 2010 was followed by the recordings of Gabriel Faure’s Requiem, and Ulrich Harbecke’s Deutsche Messe a year later.

The newest albums include J. B. Lohr’s Missa solemnis in B (2012), released within a prestigious cycle Musica Sacromontata), Pasquale Anfossi’s Oratorio of Filippo Neri’s death registered during the next edition of the Musica Sacromontana festival, and a Blu-ray DVD recorded with Dżem and Le Quattro Stagioni orchestra.

Since 2007 Poznan Chamber Choir regularly collaborates with the Poznan Philharmonic in a cappella concerts and projects with the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra. The ensemble’s broad repertoire consists mainly in works by contemporary composers from Poland (Łukaszewski, Jasiński, Penderecki, Górecki, Kilar and Bembinow) and other countries (Lauridsen, Nystedt, Whitacre, Pärt). The choir also performs Renaissance and Romantic compositions, as well as various vocal-instrumental works from other epochs.
