Los Angeles group Blackcowboy combine the alternative rock energy of bands like Maroon 5 with the more atmospheric sound of Coldplay or Radiohead.
The history of the band can be traced to the early ‘90s, when members Jonah Johnson and Richard “Pookie” Woods first met. Years of playing Hollywood haunts like the Viper Room and the Roxy earned them a loyal following, and then a breakthrough came in 2008 when the band shared the stage with Sheryl Crow and Gavin Rossdale at that year’s Global Green pre-Oscar party. In 2009, Johnson had his solo track “With You” land on the My Sister’s Keeper soundtrack, while the band’s songs “Lukas” and “Come On” appeared in the movie Rest Stop: Don’t Look Back. That same year it was announced that they were partnering with Fred Durst to record and co-produce their debut album. ~ David Jeffries
